Closed: An Ersatz Guardian

Like most people Sunny's age, she tends to wake up bright and early. Unlike most people Sunny's age, Magnu Chase is normally at her house when she wakes up these days. She honestly just expects it at this point. Today Sunny wakes up and her first stop is, of course, the potty. She's very proud of herself for making it all the way through the night without peeing in her diaper! Potty lessons have been going well. She even found some fancy diapers that she can pull up and get on all by herself, so she barely needs any help at all these days. She's a very independent woman, after all.

Far and Apu are still sleeping, so Sunny is very quiet as she picks out an outfit to wear, and she's very quiet as she gets Magnu to help her put on the outfit, and she's very quiet as she spills Lucky Charms all over the place while pouring them into a little baggy to carry with her on the adventures she and Magnu are going to have today.

Eventually Sunny is all ready to go, she even has a sippy cup of watered down apple juice (Magnu took care of that one, after the Lucky Charms mishap), and they are out the door ready to go.

"Plans?" Sunny asks, by which she means, "What are we going to do today?"

"Bout what?"

"Like, why I didn't come to him sooner, mostly."

[biteybaby]

"Oh. No in trouble though?"

[summerdude]

"No, not really," says Magnus. "He wasn't mad, but he was... you know, Sunny, I think it's worse sometimes when they're disappointed."

[biteybaby]

She gives him a hug. "Okay now though? Or still dispointid?"

[summerdude]

Magnus considers the question seriously. "I think maybe he's disappointed, but he doesn't want me to know anymore, so he's not, like, expressing it? Does that make sense?"

[biteybaby]

Sunny nods. "Secretly."

[summerdude]

"Yeah. His secret."

[biteybaby]

"I sorry, Magnu," she says.

[summerdude]

Magnus sighs. "It's okay, Sunny," he says. "Unfortunately, I guess actions have, like, consequences or whatever." He takes a bite of the granola bar and passes it back over to her. "Do you think I should talk to Pops about it?"

[biteybaby]

She takes a big bite of the granola bar and nods. "Yes, will help," she says, though since she has the big bite of granola bar in her mouth it sounds like "Eh, ill epp".

[summerdude]

"He's great that way, huh?"

[biteybaby]

"Uh huh!" she says, grinning, and it's shocking how much warmth and love for her father she is able to fit into something that is barely even an actual word.

Magnus gives her a smiling, crumb-y kiss to the top of her head, and then swipes what's left of the granola bar and pops half of it in his mouth before offering her the rest. "Okay, I'll ask him."

[biteybaby]

Sunny shoves the last bite of granola bar into her mouth and starts chewing it, but halfway through her eyes get very, very wide. She has that sudden and uncomfortable feeling in her tummy that she knows means she needs to "Potty!!!!!!! Magnu!!!!! Gotta potty!!!!!!!!!"

"You wanna use your diaper or you wanna find a tree?" Magnus asks; they're probably too far from any actual bathroom to make it in time if she's that urgent.

[biteybaby]

"Tree!" What she actually really wants is a potty, but she will settle for a tree. Even with her cool new diapers that she can get on by herself, she doesn't really like the feeling of peeing in one anymore.

[summerdude]

"You got it, boss," Magnus says, sweeping her up in his arms and bolting for the outside as fast as he can. They can come back for their stuff after she's done her business.

[biteybaby]

She manages to juuuust make it in time, and even successfully does not get any pee on herself or her clothes this time! She is so good at this now. It has been a lot of hard work, but she is very glad she did it, because now she doesn't have to rely on finding a grown up to change her diaper multiple times throughout the day. She's so grown up and independent.

"Potty better," she tells Magnus, by which she means, "I think I prefer using an actual potty, instead of a tree." She's so grown up she even has preferences about it, wow.

Magnus hands her some travel Kleenexes to use as a wipe. "Yeah, bathrooms are definitely better," he agrees. What have he and Alex been using at their camp? I guess we'll never know!
