Open: Well young lady, have you been good to your mother?
Sunny Baudelaire has been having quite an exciting time lately. For once, "exciting" means "filled with fun" and not "filled with terror, pain, panic, and an inordinate amount of running and hiding". Without the threat of Count Olaf and his associates finding her in an attempt to steal the Baudelaire fortune, Sunny has had more time for her studies. "Her studies" is a phrase which here means, "catching up on learning how to do things most people take for granted".
She has finally learned how to walk. She thinks the amount of words she is now able to say has increased. Magnu has even taught her a few things in sign language, which she finds is a little easier than speaking. The biggest news is that she now has five very sharp teeth, as opposed to the four she started with when she arrived.
Shortly before she arrived, Mr Poe had told the Baudelaires about an aphorism: It takes a village to raise a child. She wonders if that is why she has had so much time to grow. Her days are spent rotating around between several different guardians, babysitters, and friends, and it has been lovely. She hopes her siblings are having just as good of a time in the village of V.F.D.
Unfortunately I must report that her siblings are not having just as good of a time in the village of V.F.D., nor are they even still in the village of V.F.D. Sunny does not know this. It would probably be for the best if nobody tells her.

She rides along as Lan Wangji cleans, still resting on his shoulder. She wishes Violet and Klaus knew how great it is here, so they would want to come as well. Klaus would love to spend time in the library. She as a feeling he would set up a little bed inside it and just never leave the room. Violet would enjoy how the closets and cabinets and drawers and boxes and dressers here seem to have whatever it is you are looking for. She could invent anything she wanted, because she would always have the correct tools and supplies needed. The best part though would be that none of them would need to worry about Count Olaf or his associates ever again, because Crowley said so, and Crowley is much more trustworthy than Mr Poe or anyone else back home. The only person who has shown up here with any sort of tattoo on their ankles was that nice man who wanted to look at butterflies. Sunny cannot imagine Count Olaf ever caring about a butterfly, unless that butterfly was the heir to an enormous fortune, and Count Olaf was caring about kidnapping it in an attempt to steal said enormous fortune.

In time, he's tidied the kitchen to his satisfaction. The room is fragrant with the slow-simmering beef, spiced and spicy in equal measure, and Lan Wangji sets Sunny carefully atop the counter again. "We have yet to add one thing to this dish," he says, meeting her gaze with solemnity.
