Open: Well young lady, have you been good to your mother?

Sunny Baudelaire has been having quite an exciting time lately. For once, "exciting" means "filled with fun" and not "filled with terror, pain, panic, and an inordinate amount of running and hiding". Without the threat of Count Olaf and his associates finding her in an attempt to steal the Baudelaire fortune, Sunny has had more time for her studies. "Her studies" is a phrase which here means, "catching up on learning how to do things most people take for granted".

She has finally learned how to walk. She thinks the amount of words she is now able to say has increased. Magnu has even taught her a few things in sign language, which she finds is a little easier than speaking. The biggest news is that she now has five very sharp teeth, as opposed to the four she started with when she arrived.

Shortly before she arrived, Mr Poe had told the Baudelaires about an aphorism: It takes a village to raise a child. She wonders if that is why she has had so much time to grow. Her days are spent rotating around between several different guardians, babysitters, and friends, and it has been lovely. She hopes her siblings are having just as good of a time in the village of V.F.D.

Unfortunately I must report that her siblings are not having just as good of a time in the village of V.F.D., nor are they even still in the village of V.F.D. Sunny does not know this. It would probably be for the best if nobody tells her.

She stares at her feet again, thinking this over.

[futaille]

He finishes with his own shoes and kneels next to her, pointing out the strap direction. "You see. This way goes on that foot, this way on that one."

[biteybaby]

“Huh.”

[futaille]

"I hope that was helpful. Just between us, though, I'm not very helpful most of the time."

[biteybaby]

Sunny doesn't think that's entirely true; he has been helping her all afternoon to get up on the big inflatable things. She doesn't argue though, she simply holds out her hands to see if he will help her up off the floor.

[futaille]

That goes without saying, of course. He sweeps her up and plops her back on his shoulders.

[biteybaby]

Sunny is now wondering how many helpful things she can get Dr Aire to do, since he doesn't seem to think he is helpful. He clearly just hasn't noticed yet.

"Go go!" she says once settled atop his shoulders.

[futaille]

"Let's go!" He ducks through the doorway, mindful of her head, and takes off down the hallway at a jog.

[biteybaby]

Sunny is less outwardly-excited about this trip, but that is due more to how tired she got jumping around on the inflatable things and less to do with any actual level of enjoyment.

[futaille]

He manages to make it back to familiar territory, at least. "Where would you like to go next, mademoiselle?"

[biteybaby]

"Chocolate milk!"

[futaille]

"That is right! Forgive my poor memory!" He makes a sharp turn, making sure to keep Sunny properly secured, and zooms to the nearest kitchen.

[biteybaby]

Once they are in the kitchen, Sunny begins squirming to get down. "Help," she says, asking for help down to the floor.

[futaille]

He promptly sweeps her off his shoulders and sets her back down. "Let me get you your drink."

[biteybaby]

Oh look, she didn't even have to ask for help this time. Sunny smiles.

[futaille]

He opens a cabinet and sees a convenient sippy cup front and center. "Oh, this looks useful!" He takes it and goes to the fridge where he pours in some milk and some chocolate syrup, putting the lid on and shaking it up until it's mixed well before presenting Sunny with the results. "And there you are, mademoiselle."

[biteybaby]

"Thanks," she says. Fortunately this kitchen has also provided a Sunny-sized table with Sunny-sized chairs, so she sits down, drinking the milk. After a moment she removes the cup from her mouth and asks, "Snack?"

[futaille]

"But of course." He goes looking and returns with a plate of baby baby carrots and graham crackers. "Will this do?"

[biteybaby]

She grins and starts eating one of the graham crackers. "Napkin?"

[futaille]

He promptly grabs two napkins, tucks one into her collar and sets the second next to the plate. "As mademoiselle requests."

[biteybaby]

She's wondering when would be the right time to point out how helpful he has been. She takes a big sip from her sippy cup.

[futaille]

"Let me know if you need more." He grabs some cheese and crackers for himself and sits up on the counter to eat them.

[biteybaby]

Sunny enjoys her snack for a while, until she drops the sippy cup on the floor. "Oh no!" she says, staring at Grantaire.

[futaille]

Grantaire sets his own plate down as he slips off the counter to retrieve the cup and set it back on Sunny's table. "There you are, mademoiselle."

[biteybaby]

"Helper," she says with a look that seems to say, 'told you so'.
